I have walked past this next beer quite a few times at Aldi’s, but today is the day. Maguire’s Draught Stout.

We have the Guinness Over the Moon Milk stout.

5.3 alc no mention of IBU on the can, but it feels quite low. Mid 20’s-ish?
I crack open the 12oz can and give it a good pour, trying to see is we get a cascade, but sadly I do not. But just by the pour you can see this beer is not thin,, not at all. It black for sure. Opaque black, with a rather small light tan head, that is gone pretty quickly.

First thing I get is hops. quite a bit really, but not really citrusy though, more like piney?? and almost a lactose sweetness, along with a raisiny grain. Almost reminds me of an oatmeal cookie. Not so much for roast in the nose, and that seems just odd.
Trying to pin down a single taste is proving to be diffuicult. There is a lot going on. Its higher than usual stout carbonation with a fuller body seems to blend things together. Light roast, chocolate, way in the back is a bit of that raisin and hops. The sweetness level is fairly high, but thankfully it does not feature the standard Lactose taste that the aroma was throwing. The lack of any substantial bittering really make the sweet stand out.
It is quite heavy though. while I love the taste profile and complextity, the overall sweetnes and sheer heaviness really limits its consumption to one.The warmer this one gets, the heavier it feels.
This is a hard one for me to give a score on. If I were given a small sample pour first, I would have scored it quite high. But any more than that, like this whole glass full, and its just too sweet, even for a milk/sweet stout.
I gotta go with only a 2/5 on this one.
