Stopped into my local tapper this past Sunday and saw B.O.R.I.S. The Bodacious Oatmeal Russian Imperial Stout.

Poured into a snifter glass. Good pick for these beers that usually come too cold.
It did have the usually dissapointing thin, tan, slick looking tan head that an oatmeal stout usually has these days.
But the body of the beer is nothing but blackness. No cascade or bubbles that I seen at all.

The nose is chocolate and something akin to peanut butter or something nutty like that, then rolls into a light coffee with cream.
That dark tan head didn’t stay long at all. But that’s usually ok with oatmeal stouts, especially Imperial Oatmeals… Lots of oils in there.
First thing I get in taste is hop. Old school noble hops. None of those citrusy variety. Smooth roasty, nothing harsh or sharp. But more of the black malt rather than roasted barley. Good amount of chocolate here as well.
I don’t get a blast of lactose like I thought I was gonna get, but it really is on the sweet side.
Definitely has the feel of an oatmeal stout. A medium body with a slickly thing happening. Feels quite bitter, but it really works as I think this would be way to sweet with out it. I think the specs say 60 IBU.

Can feel and see the alcohol in the swirls, but it’s stays short of being hot. It does feel like more than the 9.4%.
Now that the swirling got it warmed a little there is some raisin poking out in both the taste and aroma.
This is very smooth stout. And maybe a bit muted for a RIS But it has everything I want and is very tasty.
