Any time is Stout season, and today I got Whitetail Stout from Badger State Brewing.

Awesome looking pour. Dense darker tan head with those small bubbles that stick forever
Cannot not see any light coming through at all. Just pure blackness.

Fairly Roasty and toasty with a caramel backbone. Very slight chocolate note in there, but the almost burnt roast (that’s a good thing) is the most prominent.

Taste is pretty close to aroma. Nice firm roast, a bit of caramel and graininess, but now there are hops peeking through.  Not a lot and not of the “American” variety. More of the woody/veggie
As it started to warm I start getting some raisin, but that slight chocolate in the nose is not there.

There is a bit of bitterness in the taste, but also feels a bit sweet. But it is just bitter enough to keep it from feeling heavy.

Body is on the fuller side even with the heavier feeling carbonation, that with a few swirls brings that nice looking head back.

For being labeled as an American Stout, it has the Roasty aspect, but it lacks any of the aggressive notes it should. In this day of beer sales things are tamed down for the masses, and this is a good example of that happening.

It’s close to being an American Stout, but it stayed safe and too easy going.
I can only go a 2.5 on it, but any stout this time of year will keep me ordering.
