4 Hands Brewing – Chocolate Milk Stout

Today I have the St Louis based 4 Hands Brewing’s Chocolate Milk Stout. It is currently about 98F in my normal reviewing grounds, so I am going to head inside for this one…

I am pouring this 5.5% Milk stout into my favorite goblet review glass, and immediately a chocolate waff hits you, that is probably a good sign for a chocolate stout

Very good looking black body with deep reddish highlights. A big bubbled light brown head. I’ve seen enough stout foam to know these big bubbles mean I had better take pictures fast because it ain’t sticking around

And yea.. it falls almost as fast as you can pour it, but with chocolate stouts that is usually the case.

Already mentioned the huge chocolate in the nose, but also a bit of lightly burnt roastiness that really pairs up with that chocolate. Somewhat sweet aroma, but oddly no lactose. No hop or yeast either, but that chocolate is pretty intense

And while that dark chocolate follows into the taste, it is the roast that I notice first, but that gets covered up pretty quickly. Now raisin is coming out at a decent level.

All quite big flavors.Roast,chocolate,raisins. And now there is some earthy hoppage in there.

Sweet, yes. But not heavy feeling sweet. In fact the body is quite light with moderate  bittering, and that makes for a nice lingering finish.

This beer has a lot going for it. First and foremost for me is the nice roasty package in aroma and flavor, very big chocolate with a raisiny background, all with a lighter, easy drinking body

A sweet stout, but not into the pastry stout realm of sweetness nor it’s heavy body. And even on a hotter than hell day like this, it goes down easy.

I am not sure that I have ever had a better Chocolate Stout than this 4 Hands Brewing’s Chocolate Milk Stout.

This is one to get, for sure, and that is going to get a big ol 4.75 out 5.

Go find this right now.
