The beer today is one that I have never seen before. Both beer and brewery are new to me.
Ope! Brewing’s Can I Pet Your Dog Amber ale.
From West Allis (Milwaukee) Wisconsin we have a 5.2 Amber Lager. And that is all the info we are given in the 16oz can. Amber Lager could be a few different styles, but lets see if we can narrow that down.

As I am pouring the copper colored beer into my glass, I gotta admit that it looks pretty lifeless. Seeing that there is no head forming I pour a bit harder and manage to get a thin off white head that may not last long enough to take a picture of.
The color on this is great though. A darker amberish copper color that because the bottom bit is crystal clear and the top is not, I’m going to say a bit of chill haze. The head mostly falls, but does manage to stick to the sides

Taking a whiff, the first thing you get is a fairly heavier biscuit, light bread. And right behind that is a floral hop note. Nothing for carmel or any yeast. Not a whole lot going on, but what is here works very well.
The tastes are similar to the aroma, but now add in a layer of lighter caramel. But the main taste is a Munich Malt type grainy. Still a bit of the floral hops. Nothing complex here. Just solid tastes, that don’t try to over power each other. Very clean, very neutral yeast profile.

The body is right down the middle. Just about where you would think by the looks as where it should be. Bitterness noticeable, and that is keeping the sweetness in check.
And the tastes fall off quickly with the somewhat dry finish.
Now these are the beers that I like. No crazy overloaded aspects, just clean, layered flavors that make you want to have another one.
I guess I could see this as a Vienna Lager, or an off shoot of one. The only negative I would have with this beer would be the non existent head. Not sure what made that happen. (But hey..I did manage to get all the photos before it fell off)
I am going to have to go a 4 out of 5 for Can I Pet Your Dog Amber Lager. It goes down great and is really balanced in both malts and hops. A fine beer. I hope to see more from this company.
