Lakefront: Dive Beer

The final entry with the Lakefront Variety sample pack. And I saved this one for the heatwave that is currently set upon us. Dive Beer. An American Lager.

I had this in the fridge so it is cold, but I don’t think its gonna stay that way long in my glass as it is about 110F in my garage right now, but these are the conditions this beer was made for.

This 4.2%, 12 IBU lager is a very clear pale yellow, very light looking. With moderate cascades of carbonation. A very white head that is on the thinner side, especially with all the bubbling streaming up.

The immediate aroma note is Pilsnery grain, along with a citrus. I wanna say lemon-like. Almost like lemon,, but not quite there. Quite a large aroma for an American Lager, but not overboard. Very clean.

Even the first sip is exactly what you think it would be. Light grain, with again that light citrus.. But now it is more like a tangerine? A lemony tangerine,, yea thats it. And that is really all I can get from this beer. There isnt much, but what there is works, and works well.

The light body, with almost no bittering hops, but it does have a slight pithiness. And I wouldn’t say its dry, so everything lingers around for a bit.

Hmmm. I’m not sure what to make of this beer. As far as looks go this looks absolutely refreshing on a day like this.. And that light citrusy backs that up,, but the drink, well it kinda is a bit much for such a light looking beer. Sure its a lighter smooth body, but it kinda just hangs there. Maybe its because its just stoopid hot? I dunno, but this is where and American Lager should shine,, and it misses.

Not a bad beer by any means, and this would mostly likely be great for a Packer game tailgate,, But I don’t rate on “most likely” so I have to go with a 2.5 out of 5 for this Lakefront Dive Beer.

(I will be give this one a go under better conditions, or maybe just right out of the can with a can cooler for authenticity. I will post an update if necessary)
