A bad weekend with 2 beers

This will probably be a quick one as It was a rough day for my beer sampling. I have two beers that I wasn’t going to post about, but hey, good with the bad as they say… Vicky Mango and Lion’s Tail Into the Dark. I would take a seat for this one.

The first beer is Vicky Mango. A chelada or beer cocktail. Usually a Mexican beer with fruit juice, and are getting popular these days. This one uses Victoria beer or at least  made by Cervesa Victoria, and mango.

Pouring this orangy hazy very light 3.2% concoction gets you an immediate blast of Mango. And when I mean blast, I am not kidding. That is literally all it is. The whole room is now fruit cocktail.

There is a very small almost soapy looking head, but that falls completely flat in seconds. Everything visual here is completely lifeless. It looks like plain fruit juice.

And yea, that is exactly how it tastes as well. Nothing even remotely beer about this. Like nothing. Its just mango juice. It is even thick and heavy like mango juice. It almost make you wonder is there was a mix up and Jumex Mango Nectar was put in.

I have to disqualify this, right here right now. As much as I like mixing beers and things, this is in no shape or form a beer. Its plain juice. I am not even gonna score this one.

On to the second disaster… Lion’s Tail Into the Dark American Stout from Neenah Wisconsin.

Start out with a cold beer and a cold beer clean glass, and this thing immediately foams out of control. Quick grab a second glass, same thing all foam everywhere. I already have my suspicions on where that will lead to,, but, lets keep going.

I eventually get enough poured to get a few quick glamour shots. Looks black or at least very very dark brown, and from what I can manage appears to be clear. Not much of any carbonation but it keeps trying to foam, so that is also reinforcing what I think is going to be next

And yep, I can already smell the sloppy sweet, under attenuated wort here, along with a good bit of summer dumpster goodness. Bleh. This beer has turned. Chocolate and sawdust round out what I can stand to smell. Nothing for roast nor hops in this so-called American Stout.

Sheepishly taking the first taste. What the hell is this? Grape koolaide? Sweet, grapey, something chocolate-ish. Very thin, non bitter stupid sweet, but on a good note, the dumpsterness has dropped a few notches. Completely undrinkable.

I tried to have the wife, who is a stout fan, try it but she said it smelled like vomit and wouldn’t. So we threw it in the grass. I am not sure why they would A: Call this a stout as it has nothing even close to being stouty, or B: why would they let this product out the door?

I do not know if this is a one off bad can, or it’s just the way it is, but I am not interested in finding out. And if you know me at all, and I won’t drink it, much less throw it out, you know how bad it must be. I can’t figure out how to go lower than a 0/5 so that’s what it’s getting.

I sure hope I can find some better beers for next time.
